Hellooooo Hayward !
I was over in the East Bay this weekend to watch my daughters perform in a dance competition. After we crossed the San Mateo Bridge, I spotted this beautiful pedestrian overcrossing at the eastern landing of the bridge that was just begging for a sign.
So, the next day I loaded a sign into the car and put it up. The traffic you see on the road here is on a Sunday. Anyone who has lived here in the Bay Area knows what kind of traffic this bridge gets on a weekday. The sign was still up when we left the dance competition this evening. Here's what thousands of commuters will be looking at tomorrow morning:

Excellent! You keep providing the incentives and they will be noticed! Good job my friend!
Hey, I used to commute daily under this Hayward overpass in the late 60's. Good to see someone's still trying to maintain the nation's infrastructure almost 40 years later!
good stuff. Do you ever notice people taking those down?
Dammit, PT...people like you and that Freeway Blogger fella have no respect for the federal interstate system, do you?
Thank you for the shot in the arm, Poetryman.
Dada, yes they've done an excellent job of keeping it up. Great place for hanging a sign.
Graeme, thanks and yes, one time I saw a sign coming down. It was one of the first ones I put up and when I came back the next day to take a picture, the road crew was in the process of removing it. It was OK, theough. I had put 17 other signs up the night before and all of those were still up.
Kramer, I'll stop hanging the signs when you pry the cardboard out of my cold, dead hands. Or when there's a government in place that I don't have any complaints about, whichever comes first.
Well, thanks for the blog idea today, pt.:
So I saw this sign that P.T. Cruiser had put on a pedestrian overpass in
Hayward, CA. It read "U.S. OUT OF IRAQ". That got me to thinking, how
would it be to make one that reads "U.S. OUT OF U.S."? I wasn't sure.
But if "U.S. out of Iraq" in Iraq means "just leave us alone--go away you
bastards!", maybe "U.S. out of U.S." here in the States would be a similar
message with the same nuance for Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice,
Gonzales, Rove and the rest of the corruption crowd. Of course, I couldn't
say all of that on a small sign, so I thought I'd say it here.
U.S. OUT OF U.S. Go away, just leave us alone you bastards!

After posting that, I then clipped today's Bizarro cartoon about a former business owner driven out of business by Wal-Mart, where he now works as a greeter, for which he's grateful, but the money he now makes at Wal-Mart isn't enough to allow him to shop anywhere but Wal-Mart. Well, I thought that was worthy of posting, so I taped it eye-level on the wall in the Wal-Mart men's restroom in front of the urinal. I realized later I should have made copies enough to paste at all urinals and stalls in both men's restrooms.
Is this how it begins?
If anyone is interested...start with printing address labels (I can do 30 at once...IMPEACH...BUSH LIED...END THE WAR etc. And just go crazy pasting them anywhere...on the door to the super market...restaurants...places that people will readily see them. Surrepticiously of course. Move on to bigger and better things in no time. It makes you feel really super! I'd love to put something in my front yard...but a cross would be burned there instead... because this is red neck city here...silly with Reptilicans.
Thanks for making my evening. This is inspiring. So happy they're still up.
This is just so damn cool. As I sit here with this big goofy grin on my face.
Dada, glad to see this is catching on. You actually could post "U.S. Out Of U.S.". Anything that forces people to think is a good thing, in my estimation.
Sumo, I tried that once and when I went back to look at the stickers, I thought, "This isn't reaching nearly as many people as my freeway signs". To paraphrase Scarlet, "Aside from prisoners, you won't find a more captive audience than people trapped in their cars."
Kat, always glad to put a smile on your face.
Thank you very much, Glenda.
PT you are an inspiration.....truly...Great signs....so great that you gave me an idea even for urban dwellers...more to come...keep up the good work..
( dada is a Hoot isn't he ? damn, wish I could leave messeges over urinals...that is a Good one !!!)
right on papa pt ... you must be proud of your daughters and vice versa ...
E4E, looking forward to seeing what your idea is all about.
Yes, Rory. I'm extremely proud of them. I'd be hard pressed to come up with anything in life that I enjoy more than watching my daughters dance.
hmmm, I guess I can put it here ( Newspaper and propaganda Police don't read- right?)..I have been "redecorating" newspaper boxes...( Live downtown..no highway nearby ;-( )
So I thought about it - and still have to get the MESSEGES out..so I take one of the Meaningful phrases and COPY and then early am- go get a paper...and stick it in back of box...( yes...glue...) and if I have extra copies I leave them inserted in the newspapers ..it take all of 5 minutes...
( END THE WAR, BUSH LIED etc etc...)
I guess it is not freeway blogging...it is urban blogging...
( the Homeless here have been saying I am a "nuts" but they laugh..they get it...)
Great job, E4E. That's how it starts. Just one person going out there and doing it. Keep it going, sister.
Thanks PT- I had to do something...and it is kind of fun now....( I used to hide the GUN mags behind the knitting mags at Walmart- but this is more fun....and maybe more meaningful) ..but thanks for the inspriation...( you and Freeway Blogger)
I can't wait to do Kvatch's Kommando protest! I got my soldiers! I got my labels! I got my sharpies!!
It sure beats tagging SUVs and Hummers. That was a bit scary...
